More XP SP2 problems

Not only Chiko's laptop is having major problems with XP SP2. It seems mine is now getting a bluescreen error in arp1394.sys (firewire driver) every time I suspend it. I've been doing a lot of overnight compiling and downloading (latest Debian DVD's which took about 3 days to download) lately, so it took me a while to notice this. Two out of two computers with major problems after installing SP2. Just how much testing did Microsoft put this through? I'm thinking of sending them an invoice for the time I've wasted so far getting Chiko's PC back into a usable state.

Update 3/10/2004: As noted in the comments, the cause of the problem turned out to be Kerio Personal Firewall 4.1.0, which I'd upgraded to shortly after installing SP2. If you've found this page through Google because you are having the same problem, and have Kerio installed, try upgrading to 4.1.1 (or later if a newer version has come out by the time you read this).

Hey, I just had the same problem; you seem to be the only "Google resource" on this one ! Guess it's new, so I just deactivated the device in Safe Mode; maybe try it again in a couple of months or so, after several windows updates that might fix it.

Ciao,

My PC display a blue screen as yours when I let him downloading overnight. According to the screen, this error comes from "arp1394.sys" but I haven't found a solution to my problem...

If you know a tip, let me know ;-)

Hey, it's comforting to know I'm not the only one with this peculiar problem. I just purchased a new Acer laptop and installed XP SP1 on it. Worked fine for a while, then it just crashed as you describe. And this without SP2, installing it didn't correct the problem. I guess I'll deactivate it for now, hope Microsoft or a call to Acer will gimme me some insight.>

Same thing happened to me AFTER an upgrade to Service Pack 2 (I am using XP Media Center Edition on a toshiba p25-s607). No longer can hibernate or stand by. If I try to disable arp1394.sys in device manager, the blue screen of death happens hear as well. I will try doing it in safe mode now. What a pain in the @$$...>

I'm running Kerio Personal Firewall too. I'm going to test it after upgrading KPF to 4.1.1 and reactivate the IEEE driver.>

Thanks for the tip. Yes I do have Kerio, and upgraded it around the time I noticed this problem start. So this problem wasn't due to SP2 after all.>
